The RNCM is equipped with studios (with Steinway D and B grands), teaching rooms (each with 2 Steinways models A and B), practice rooms, a recital room with 2 Steinway B's. The large opera theatre and the Concert hall are equipped with 3 exceptional Steinway model D concert grands which are maintained to international performance standards.

Yamaha Piano Technicians Guild - Tuning & concert preparation for Yamaha Artist Services at venues throughout the UK

        - to meet the demanding needs of Yamaha' professional Artist Services team to attend, tune and maintain the premium pianos from Yamaha including the handmade Yamaha CFX concert grand. 

Yamaha Pianos give membership to the Yamaha Piano Technicians Guild (YPTG) to a select few technicians; the YPTG was set up to create a recognised team of qualified technicians that are authorised by Yamaha to work on their hand built CF range of pianos.

Resident concert technician for Ribble Valley International Piano Week, Malvern Piano Festival, James Mottram International Piano Competition, Preston Guildhall, North Fylde Music Circle, Harris Music Club and many other notable music societies.

Established for over 35 years and working constantly throughout all of both the counties of Lancashire & Cumbria following 3 years full time study in piano tuning, repair and maintenance at the London College of Furniture. Awarded a Higher Diploma in Piano Technology & Piano Tuning by the Technicians' Education Council.

Subsequent training opportunities include: Pianoforte Tuners' Association conferences, (technical classes in Steinway, Fazioli and Kawai grand piano regulation) and in 2008 an invitation from Yamaha to join the Yamaha Piano Technicians Guild. Ongoing high-level technical seminars which are being provided for members only at Yamaha's facilities in Milton Keynes and Hamburg. These are designed to ensure the best possible technical support throughout the UK to the hand crafted range of Yamaha pianos and especially the CFIIIs and CFX Concert grands. To date, there have been 6 residential courses.

It is an honour to have been appointed to maintain the extensive piano stock at the RNCM, and to prepare the Yamaha CFX concert grand for the James Mottram International Competition, and to have provided technical support at one of Yamaha's most prestigious events; Malvern Piano Festival 2012 which included performers as diverse as Angela Hewitt, John Lill and Tim Minchin.

Training and experience

Graduated from the London College of Furniture (now London Metropolitan University) with TEC Higher diploma and C&GLI qualifications.

Passed the examination for membership of the PTA - see for details of standards required of members.

Tuning assessment at Steinway Hall. Subsequently I have tuned for numerous public recitals on Steinway's behalf.

2004 to date
Tuner and technician for the Ribble Valley International Piano Week, an annual concert series held at Westholme Theatre, Blackburn; Artistic Directors - Martin Roscoe and Mike George.

Invited to join the Yamaha Piano Technicians Guild, which provides ongoing highly specialised technical training.
